Over time, technology has changed our world and our daily lives. It has provided fantastic tools and resources, allowing us to access crucial information at any time. Modern technology has enabled multi-functional devices such as smartphones and smartwatches. Computers are becoming more portable, powerful, and faster than they have ever been.
As a result of all of these breakthroughs, technology has made our lives better, faster, easier. Our televisions have become Smart TVs now, our internet connections have gotten stronger. And our phone calls have become clearer, all thanks to modern technology.
People look for offers with all these qualities and Xfinity internet plans provide just that. You can subscribe to any of the Xfinity bundles and have a reliable internet connection along with extensive TV channel lists and/or make as many phone calls as you want, at the most promising rates.
However, with improvements in the technology with every passing day, we decide to upgrade our products as well. So for instance you have decided to get a new laptop but still have enough useful data in the previous one, you can very easily transfer the data from one to another using a LAN.
A LAN (Local Area Network) is a terrific way to connect two laptops with one and another for swiftly moving the data between them. Using an Ethernet cable or a wireless connection, you may transport data between two Mac or PC laptops via a LAN.
Without any further ado, let’s get into how you can achieve that.
It is a not difficult task. Just follow the steps below:
Step 1: Connect the two laptops to the same network. You can use a wireless connection to link both laptops, or you can use an Ethernet cable to connect both laptops to a LAN port on your modem or router.
Step 2: Go to the Control Panel and click on it. Use the laptop on which you want to share files or folders. To open the Control Panel, perform these steps:
- Click on the Windows Start Button
- Search Control Panel
- Click on the Control Panel
Step 3: In the search bar, type Network. It’s in the Control Panel window’s upper-right corner. This shows a variety of network configuration options.
Step 4: Click on “Network and Sharing Center”
Step 5: Then click on “Change Advanced Sharing Settings”.
Step 6: Make sure that Network Discovery, Printer Sharing, and File Sharing are all turned on. Click the radio button next to “Turn on network discovery” and “Turn on printer and file sharing” to enable Network Discovery and Printer and File Sharing.
Step 7: Click “Save Changes” to lock in your new settings.
Step 8: Now open File Explorer. If File Explorer is not visible on the taskbar, click the Windows Start button and type “File Explorer” to bring up the Start menu.
Step 9: Go to a file or folder that you’d like to share. Files and folders can be shared with other computers on your network. Navigate to the file or folder you want to share using File Explorer. You can either click a folder in the main window or use the Quick Access folders in the menu to the left.
Step 10: To share a file or folder, right-click it. A menu appears to the right of the file or folder.
Step 11: Select “Give Access to”. It’s in the right-click menu that appears once you right-click on a file or folder. This brings up a side-by-side sub-menu.
Step 12: Choose “Specific People”.
Step 13: Click on “Share”. It’s in the Network Access menu at the bottom. This distributes the file or folder over your network and displays the folder’s network address.
There are some other ways you can use to share the data from one laptop to another. Some are mentioned below.
Cloud Storage
Cloud storage is one of the simplest ways to transfer data from one laptop to another. All you have to do now is upload the material to your cloud storage accounts, such as Google Drive, OneDrive, or iCloud. Then just switch to the other laptop and log into your cloud storage account. It’s quite straightforward, and you won’t require any additional hardware. You will, however, want a strong internet connection for this, particularly if you plan to transfer significant amounts of data.
External Storage
You will need a compatible external device for this. It can be a hard drive or a USB. Then just log into your cloud storage account on the second laptop. It’s a simple process that doesn’t necessitate any additional hardware. However, you’ll need a fast internet connection for this, especially if you plan to transfer large amounts of data. This is a straightforward but effective approach for moving files from one machine to another.
Conclusion
You can’t simply copy-paste programs like you would files since you could miss critical files throughout the copy-paste process, causing problems when the program is run. You’ll have to reinstall the apps on your new computer from scratch, which can be time-consuming and tiresome. This is the preferred method because it results in fewer errors and problems in the long run.
